NDSurplus assists Hesburgh Library
When the Hesburgh Library basement renovation began, the
Library's Building Services Supervisor, Ross Fergerson,
was faced with sorting through over 6000 pieces of furniture.
Some of the current furniture would be kept and some would
be discarded. Ross contacted Frank Parker, Manager of Central
Receiving, to check what storage space was available on
campus. Frank suggested that Ross should visit NDSurplus,
the new surplus property program, which could help him
evaluate his furniture requirements. NDSurplus provided
not onlu a place for him to dispose of unneeded items,
but also a source for acquiring items that could be used
in other locations within the Library.
"NDSurplus has allowed me to find, at no cost, good quality
office items that needed", said Fergerson. "I was able
to make the library staff very happy".
Fergerson estimates that he was able to save the library
over $12000 by acquiring 11 desks, 8 computer desks, 9
filing cabinets, 20 chairs, 6 small shelving units, 8 keyboard
trays and 8 tables through NDSurplus.
"This is one of the best programs on campus," says Fergerson.
